For me, receiving massage on a regular basis is a big part of what taking care of myself looks like. AT LEAST once a month, but more likely twice a month if I'm going through some challenging times.
Massage is part of an overall self-care package that works well for me. The total package also includes chiropractic (Thanks to Dr. Bernath for his great adjustments!), yoga, cooking meals at home, drinking water, essential oils, and not overworking myself.
Prioritizing and focusing on what's really important helps tremendously, too. When things get overwhelming, I like to put my energy into what I do have control over. For example: decluttering my house or office; working in my yard; cooking healthy food... tangible things where I can see where I'm making a difference in something in my life.
But no matter what is going on in my life or how I'm feeling, I always feel lighter and a little brighter after a massage. It's amazing how sometimes just getting the body deeply relaxed can make things clearer for the mind and kind of "reset" our bodies.
Many people think of massage as a luxury, something to only do once in a while as a treat. But it's really more of self-care...
Ask yourself this: How often do you take your car for routine maintenance like tune-ups and oil changes?
And now compare that to how often you do something for your body like receive a professional therapeutic massage. Are you treating your car better than your body?
When was the last time you were on the table? If it's been more than a month or 3,000 miles - it's time to schedule yourself a massage!
